I have to admit, I have fallen in love with Pinterest.

“Pinterest is a virtual pinboard. Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes. Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests. To get started, request an invite.”

Pinterest now has over 2.3 billion pageviews per month and 4 million visitors per day!

Why Is Pinterest So Popular?

Many people wonder what makes Pinterest so sticky, or addictive. Here is why I think it has caught on:

1. Nesting

Women have an instinctive desire to nest and build. Pinterest is a way to collect beautiful things.

2. Stuff without Stuff

Unfortunately we have been groomed in our society to believe that having more stuff makes us more successful and the more stuff you have the more secure you can be. Pinterest is a way of gathering stuff, without actually having to buy it or store it.

3. Moderate Hoarding

It is in our nature to hoard, Pinterest is also a way of hoarding to feel secure.

4. Surrounding Ourselves with Beauty

Pinterest is full of beauty. We love to surround ourselves with beauty because it makes us feel more beautiful.

5. Kinda Productive?

Somehow, when I am on Pinterest I feel like I am being semi-productive because I am gathering ideas, kitchen cleaning tips and stuff for the future. It is a hobby that feels just enough like you are doing someone efficient.

6. Shopping and Exploring!

People love to find clothes from Pinterest and even though some pins have no source image, you can still use Picnic to shop for your pin, find clothes from Pinterest, find related images and so much more. Many Pinterest users have trouble finding their pin’s source or the original source of a pin on Pinterest. Picnic will help you find your pins! It can also help you get past pinterest blocked links and broken pins.

Do you use Pinterest…you should, it is amazing!

  1. Nice article! I loved the idea that pinterest helps to create an environment filled with beauty. The only thing that I’m wondering about.. is hoarding really in our nature? I know plenty of people who hate collecting things.
